About Portable Personal Emergency Call Alarms

When we retire, it's a time to celebrate and enjoy our new found freedom! But, nowadays, many seniors are living alone. The reasons for so many one-person residences can be out of choice, or perhaps one partner, unfortunately, must reside in an assisted living or nursing care facility, or may have died. Whatever the reason that some seniors live alone, they may be uncertain and apprehensive if an emergency occurs.

The difference between worry and peace of mind, can be a personal emergency call alarm. Personal emergency call alarms and systems allow independent living to seniors. Most injuries and accidents happen right at home. What if you're unable to get to your phone?

There are many personal emergency alarms on the market. A key chain alarm is one example. This type of alarm is convenient, small enough to fit in your hand, and are extremely loud, it is not a type of alarm that will call 911 for you. For instance, a car alarm. But, unfortunately, people are used to hearing alarms sounding most everyday. What do you do when you hear a car alarm? Do you run to see if you can be of help? I doubt it, as most people continue on with their business and never look back.

If you don't have the emergency key chain alarm with you, what good is it? Or, even if you have the alarm with you, and you fall, the key chain can go flying out of your hand. And, if you cannot get up to get the alarm, you will not be able to even let someone know you need help. So, in my opinion, key chain alarms serve a purpose, but if someone actually comes to where the place that the sound is being generated from.

Wouldn't it be nice if you could actually wear a phone around your neck? You wouldn't need to worry about dropping or losing your connection to the outside world. Personal emergency call alarms, have recently come on the market.

Personal emergency call alarms have three basic components: the panic button, the base unit, and the call center. Mostly, the panic buttons are used to call for medical assistance, and can be worn as a necklace or bracelet. The panic button activates the base unit, and a call is placed to a designated response center. An attendant at the response center will speak to the person needing medical attention and alert family, friend, or emergency services. If the person cannot answer the response center attendant, emergency personnel will be dispatched to the caller's address immediately.

The necklace or bracelet alarm is a friend in need, if you fall and cannot get up or reach your telephone. The necklace or bracelet is actually the panic button, which will trigger the base unit to call for help. Many emergencies have happy endings because assistance was received quickly.

If an intruder breaks into your home, would you be able to call for help and speak to emergency personnel? Would the intruder stop and wait for you to call for help? I doubt it. But, these types of alarms can, also, serve as silent alarms, and allow you can call for help without anyone knowing. No need to speak to anyone, but rest assured, help is on the way!

The more I learn about security technologies and available products, the more I realize the right alarm for seniors and families must be chosen. We deserve to feel safe and secure in our own homes, and personal emergency response alarms offer that freedom. Our families are our lives, our homes are our castles, and whether we are young or not so young, adding another level of security and protection is a good thing a peace of mind-gaining no brainer.

Deciding on the company to provde this service is a critical decision. There are lots of them out there. Questions to ask might include the obvious, like how much is the monthly fee, and, is the equipment free. But also ask whether the monitoring station is UL Certified, does the company operate its own monitoring center or does it buy the service from a larger company, and what optional features are available..
